I went up to see my mom at work before I came in to work today, and when I pulled into the parking lot, there was a seagull sitting in one of the parking spots. I didn't think anything of it at first because we're so close to the lake that we get seagulls all the time, but as I got closer to it I realized there was something very, very wrong...The poor bird's wing was, literally, hanging off its body, and it kept opening and closing its mouth like it was screaming...perkele...I almost burst into tears. I mean, obviously someone hit this poor creature and just left it for dead. What the fuck? How can you DO something like that?! I called animal control and left a message, and apparently they came and got the bird shortly after...I know they were just going to put it down, there's really no way to reattach a wing, and it's not like it was just broken or something...but still, at least it won't be in pain anymore...I just...gah, I'm really upset by this. I know it's "just a bird" but it's still a living thing! And the look in its eyes...fuck...I have to stop thinking about this or I'm going to cry. RIP lil seagull...I'm so sorry human beings are so cruel.

I really don't understand people...I really, really don't. I mean, I'm from a family who is known for finding injured animals on the side of the road and we end up nursing them back to health and keeping them if we can. We got one of our birds, a galah called Molly from the side of the road. She was injured and couldn't fly. We got her years ago and we still have her because even though her wing has mended, she's too adjusted to this life now and couldn't live in the wild. Anyway, not the point. I don't understand how people can just leave...living creatures for dead. Even if we hit an animal like a kangaroo or an emu or something in the car, we'll pull over and take a look to make sure it's not in agony or anything. Sometimes animals get right back up and walk off. Sometimes they don't. When they don't is when you have to take responsibility. Okay, yeah, it's a seagull but still. It's a living creature who was hit by something huge and metal until it's wing snapped...people are just too cruel...
