I feel the need to lighten the mood in here...

...so, I'm going to ramble on about my puppy for a little while.

Meet the love of my life, Sadie. She's our rottweiler/German shepard mix (or so the vet tells us) that we got from the Human Society at Lollypop Farm here in Rochester when she was 4 months old. She's 10 years old now, and has had surgery on both of her back knees, but she's still just as sweet and loving as the day we brought her home.

I remember the day we brought her home like it was yesterday. We had gone to pick her out the day before, but they had to give her a rabies shot, so we couldn't take her home then. My family had never had a dog before, so my mom decided to let my brother, my sister and me skip school and go with her to pick her up. We were all so excited, and she was so shy and timid, but she warmed up to us really quickly. At the time, my mom was driving my Kia Sephia because she and my dad didn't have a car, and it was a really, really small car. My siblings and I all wanted to be close to our new puppy, so we decided to cram into the back seat, all three of us, and Sadie laid across our laps, perfectly content to be petted and loved on all the way home. That night, we didn't have a crate for her yet, so we tried to enclose her in the old coal cellar in our basement, but naturally, she hated it. She whined and barked and finally busted her way out, came upstairs and scratched at the back door until we let her in, and then I made a bed on the floor in my bedroom for myself and the dog. She slept curled up next to me all night long, and I suppose you could say that that night was the beginning of the most beautiful relationship of my life.

No matter how bad a day I'm having, she's always there when I come home, wagging her tail and waiting for me to take my shoes off and get down on the floor so she can give me kisses and cuddle with me. There really is no better friend in the world than a dog, they're so loyal and loving. Sadie is truly something special. She's been there for me during the hardest times in my life, times when I couldn't talk to my family or friends. She knows all of my secrets, has seen me cry more times than any other living thing in this world, and she's a wonderful listener. I love her so much, and I truly can't imagine my life without her. Thankfully, for an older dog she is fairly healthy, aside from the problems with her joints and knees and being overweight, but the vet has told us that she still has a few good years left in her.

She goes everywhere with us. Grocery shopping, camping...she's the only one who will go down to Dreamer's Hideaway with me on a regular basis. We go hiking when she's not too painful, but now she has pain medication we can give her, so I'll be able to take her more often again. Some of my favorite summer moments are spent just lying in the backyard with her or taking her down to North Ponds Park and sitting on "my rock" while she plays in the water. In all honesty, and I don't care how pathetic this might sound, Sadie is my best friend in the world. She doesn't judge me, she just loves me, and if I happen to tick her off for whatever reason (like taking a million pictures of her or making her come inside when she doesn't really want to yet) all it takes is a Meaty Bone and I'm completely forgiven. There's no love that is more unconditional than that of a dog.

*smiles softly* Isn't she just the most beautiful dog in the world?

  1. *smiles* Awwwwww...I LOVE Sadie <3 She's so darn cute and she has such a pretty profile. She really does remind me of our old rottie Zeus. But, of course, she is far more feminine and gentle. He was a bit rough xP I love her to bits and hope I can meet her soon. She's SO cute. You'll have to bring her with you when you come to Aus xP
